Starting NeuroMe should feel exciting, but it may also feel unfamiliar.
NeuroMe is a digital learning provider.
This means that the lessons, communication, marking, feedback, Practice Rounds and many Knowledge Challenges are completed online.

The first choice families make when enroling with NeuroMe, is their pathway and their option:

When enrolling with NeuroMe, every family must choose a pathway:
This decision is not about measuring your learner’s intelligence or potential. It is about choosing the academic structure that best matches their current capacity, support needs and desired qualification destination.

Open Scope
A flexible CAPS-aligned learning pathway
Open Scope is intended for learners who need:
- More time.
- Reduced pressure.
- Longer than one year to complete a grade.
- Different grade levels across subjects.
- Term, grade or foundational catch-up.
- Time to recover from burnout, anxiety or school refusal.
NeuroMe releases new work according to the same predictable two week structure, but Open Scope learners may take longer to complete it.
The learner still completes lessons, receives marking and feedback, uses Practice Rounds and completes Knowledge Challenges.
Open Scope provides flexibility.
It does not remove meaningful learning, assessment or parental responsibility.

Standard NSC
A structured route towards the NSC
The Standard pathway is intended for learners who can:
- Complete approximately one grade per year.
- Follow NeuroMe’s academic calendar.
- Complete work within the allocated academic sections.
- Complete assessments on the required dates.
- Meet the applicable qualification and registration requirements.
Grades R to 9 provide CAPS aligned preparation.
Grades 10 to 12 form the regulated three year SACAI National Senior Certificate programme.
The learner still has meaningful autonomy within NeuroMe’s two week sections. Families may personalise the learner’s daily timetable, lesson order, workspace, breaks and regulation support.
However, the academic sections, assessment dates and formal requirements must be followed.
When enrolling with NeuroMe, every family must choose an option:
The difference is the level of personal motivational support included.
Option 1: Chilled Package
Option 1 provides the complete NeuroMe academic offering.
It is suitable for families who feel comfortable managing the learner’s daily routine, motivation and emotional adjustment at home, while still having access to NeuroMe’s academic and general support teams when guidance is needed.

Option 2: Hype Package
Option 2 provides everything included in Option 1.
It also gives the learner a dedicated NeuroChamp who meets with them online every week. The NeuroChamp supports motivation, emotional insight, executive functioning, confidence and adjustment to the NeuroMe journey.

Then you are ready to get started
You will need a suitable laptop, stable internet and a willingness to learn how to use the basic Google Workspace tools that form part of the NeuroMe journey.
NeuroMe provides the learning structure and guides you through the important setup processes.
The parent remains responsible for making sure that the learner has the correct equipment, can access the platforms and completes the orientation activities.
The simplest explanation
To begin NeuroMe successfully, your family needs:
- A suitable laptop.
- Stable internet.
- Google Chrome.
- A working webcam.
- A working microphone.
- Regular access to email.
- Basic digital skills.
- Access to the learner’s NeuroMe Google account.
- Time to complete the orientation activities.
- A parent who regularly reads ionHub and NeuroMe communication.
You do not need to understand everything before enrolling.
You will receive guidance after enrolment.
You do need to follow the setup steps before the learner begins working independently.
NeuroMe is a digital learning provider
NeuroMe is not based on printed textbooks or daily physical classes.
The learner’s academic journey takes place mainly through Google Workspace.
This includes tools such as:
- Gmail.
- Google Classroom.
- Google Drive.
- Google Meet.
- Google Calendar.
- Other Google tools used for lessons, communication and submissions.
The learner accesses lessons online, completes activities and submits work digitally.
NeuroMe markers return marks and feedback through the applicable platform.
Important information is communicated through ionHub and the learner’s NeuroMe email.
This gives the family one connected digital learning environment.
What device does my learner need?
The learner needs reliable access to a laptop.
A desktop computer may also be suitable for many ordinary learning activities, but a laptop is usually more practical because it can be used in the learner’s preferred learning space and for Invigilator App assessments.
For the Invigilator App, families need a compatible Mac or Windows laptop with:
- Google Chrome.
- A working webcam.
- A working microphone.
- Stable internet.
- Permission to use the camera and microphone.
- Enough battery power or access to a charger.
A tablet or mobile phone may be useful for:
- Taking photographs.
- Recording practical activities.
- Scanning written work.
- Reading communication.
- Uploading selected evidence.
However, a mobile phone or tablet does not replace the required laptop for the full NeuroMe journey or for applicable Invigilator App assessments.
A Chromebook may also not meet the current Invigilator App assessment requirements.
Families should therefore ensure that they have access to a suitable Mac or Windows device before the learner reaches an applicable Knowledge Challenge.
Why does NeuroMe require a laptop?
A laptop allows the learner to:
- View lessons clearly.
- Type responses.
- Open PDFs.
- Upload documents.
- Use Google Classroom.
- Receive email communication.
- Attend online support or social sessions.
- Use the Invigilator App.
- Complete formal assessments.
- Store or download important academic evidence.
A small phone screen can make longer lessons, written responses and assessment administration unnecessarily difficult.
The laptop is not an optional extra.
It is one of the learner’s main educational tools.
Internet requirements
The family needs stable and regular internet access.
The learner will use the internet to:
- Open lessons.
- Watch or listen to lesson content.
- Submit activities.
- Receive marked work.
- Download study material.
- Complete Practice Rounds.
- Complete Knowledge Challenges.
- Use the Invigilator App.
- Attend NeuroMix.
- Attend NeuroSupport.
- Meet with a NeuroChamp where Option 2 is selected.
- Read ionHub communication.
A temporary internet interruption during ordinary lesson work may be manageable.
An unstable connection during an assessment can create significant stress.
Families should test the internet connection before Practice Rounds and Knowledge Challenges.
Where possible, have a backup plan available, such as:
- Mobile data.
- Another trusted internet connection.
- A backup device that meets the requirements.
- Access to a family member’s suitable workspace.
Technical preparation is part of assessment preparation.
Do we need a printer?
NeuroMe does not rely on printed textbooks.
Some lessons or assessments may still require:
- A worksheet.
- Handwritten calculations.
- A practical activity.
- A drawing.
- A craft template.
- A PDF question paper.
- A document that must be printed and completed.
Families should therefore have reasonable access to a printer.
This does not necessarily mean that the family must own one.
You may use:
- A home printer.
- A family member’s printer.
- A local print shop.
- A library or community printing service.
A phone camera or scanning application may also be needed to upload clear copies of completed written work.
Basic technological ability is required
NeuroMe guides families through its own processes.
However, the parent and learner need basic digital skills.
At least one responsible adult in the home should be able to:
- Open and send an email.
- Click a link.
- Download a file.
- Upload a file.
- Open a PDF.
- Use Google Chrome.
- Log into a Google account.
- Move between Gmail and Google Classroom.
- Take a screenshot.
- Find a downloaded document.
- Use a webcam and microphone.
- Allow browser permissions.
- Scan or photograph written work.
- Check whether a file was submitted successfully.
- Follow written setup instructions.
You do not need to be an information technology expert.
You should be willing to practise the basic skills needed to support a digital learner.
What if I am not confident with technology?
Many NeuroMe parents initially feel anxious about the technology.
This is understandable.
You may not have used Google Classroom before.
You may not know where a downloaded file goes.
You may worry about pressing the wrong button.
The first few days may require patience.
The good news is that Google Workspace is widely used.
This means that many basic questions can be answered through an ordinary Google search.
For example, you can search:
- How to log into Google Classroom.
- How to upload a file to Google Classroom.
- How to find downloads on Windows.
- How to take a screenshot on a Mac.
- How to allow microphone access in Chrome.
- How to scan a document using a phone.
NeuroMe provides guidance for NeuroMe specific processes.
Families remain responsible for developing the ordinary computer skills required to use the device.
NeuroMe cannot provide unlimited basic computer training
NeuroMe will guide you through:
- Where to find NeuroMe lessons.
- How the NeuroMe academic structure works.
- Where important communication appears.
- How to prepare for Knowledge Challenges.
- How to set up the Invigilator App.
- How to follow NeuroMe submission processes.
NeuroMe cannot provide individual training on every basic computer function.
For example, the team may not be able to teach each family individually:
- How to use a mouse.
- How to connect to WiFi.
- How to create a folder.
- How to update a browser.
- How to find every downloaded file.
- How to operate a printer.
These are ordinary digital skills that the family should practise or obtain help with locally.
What happens after you enrol?
Once you have completed the NeuroMe enrolment form, the enrolment enters the applicable administrative process.
You will receive confirmation that your enrolment has been received.
The next step depends on the type of enrolment.
If the learner requires catch up access
A catch up learner is joining after part of the relevant academic period has already been released and needs access to previous content.
In this case:
- NeuroMe reviews the catch up period required.
- A catch up fee is calculated or invoiced.
- The parent receives the applicable payment information.
- The catch up fee must be paid.
- Access is prepared after the payment process has been completed.
- The parent then receives the learner’s login information.
The catch up fee provides access to the missed content required for the learner’s selected route.
The learner’s account will not ordinarily be activated for catch up content before the catch up payment requirements have been completed.
Parents should keep proof of payment and follow the instructions in the confirmation communication.
If the learner does not require catch-up access
For other enrolment routes, Parent 1, as listed on the enrolment form, receives the learner’s login information by email.
This email contains important information needed to enter the NeuroMe system.
The email may include:
- The learner’s NeuroMe email address.
- The temporary or issued password.
- Login instructions.
- Orientation guidance.
- Links to the relevant platforms.
- The next steps for getting started.
The parent should read the complete email carefully before attempting to set everything up.
Check your spam folder
Sometimes the login email may not appear in the main inbox.
It may arrive in:
- Spam.
- Junk mail.
- Promotions.
- Updates.
- Another filtered email folder.
If the email has not arrived, first:
- Search the inbox for NeuroMe.
- Search for the learner’s name.
- Check spam and junk mail.
- Check promotions and other filtered folders.
- Confirm that Parent 1’s email address was entered correctly on the enrolment form.
- Wait for the communicated processing period.
- Contact the correct NeuroMe support person if the email still cannot be found.
Many login concerns are resolved by checking the spam folder.
Parent 1 receives the login details
The email address entered as Parent 1 on the enrolment form is especially important.
This person should:
- Have regular access to the email account.
- Monitor the inbox.
- Check spam.
- Keep the learner’s login details safe.
- Help the learner complete the initial setup.
- Read the orientation communication.
- Share necessary information with another responsible parent where appropriate.
Parents should make sure that the Parent 1 email address is correct before submitting the enrolment form.
A typing error can delay access.
The learner receives a NeuroMe email address
Each learner receives a NeuroMe Google account.
The account includes a NeuroMe email address used to access the learner’s Google Workspace tools.
The learner and parent use this NeuroMe account to enter the learner’s digital learning environment.
The NeuroMe Google account may provide access to:
- Gmail.
- Google Classroom.
- Google Drive.
- Google Meet.
- Google Calendar.
- Other Google tools used by NeuroMe.
The learner should not use a private personal Gmail account to access their NeuroMe Classroom unless specifically instructed.
The NeuroMe account connects the learner to the correct classes, communication and academic systems.
Save the login details safely
Parents should save the learner’s:
- NeuroMe email address.
- Password.
- Relevant platform links.
- Parent login details where separately issued.
- Recovery or support information.
Store the details in a safe place that the responsible parent can access.
Avoid repeatedly resetting passwords unnecessarily.
If the learner’s password is changed, make sure that the updated details are recorded safely.
A forgotten or incorrectly entered password can delay lesson or assessment access.
How to log into the NeuroMe Google account
The parent and learner can use the learner’s NeuroMe email address to log into Google.
The basic process is:
- Open Google Chrome.
- Go to Google.
- Select the account icon or sign in option.
- Enter the learner’s NeuroMe email address.
- Enter the issued password.
- Complete any required first login steps.
- Open the Google applications menu.
- Select Gmail or Google Classroom.
Once logged in, the learner should remain in the NeuroMe account while completing NeuroMe work.
Using the wrong Google account can create access problems.
Check which Google account is active
Many families already use personal Gmail accounts.
Google Chrome may automatically open in the parent’s personal account instead of the learner’s NeuroMe account.
Before contacting NeuroMe about missing Classroom access, check the account icon in the top right corner.
Confirm that the learner’s NeuroMe email address is displayed.
If the wrong account is open:
- Sign out of the personal account.
- Switch to the learner’s NeuroMe account.
- Open Google Classroom again.
A large number of Google Classroom access difficulties happen because the wrong Google account is active.
What is Gmail used for?
The learner’s NeuroMe Gmail account is used for official learner communication.
It may contain:
- Academic notifications.
- Classroom notifications.
- Meeting invitations.
- Support communication.
- Assessment information.
- Calendar invitations.
- Important learner specific instructions.
The parent should help the learner check the account regularly.
Younger learners should not be expected to manage important communication alone.
What is Google Classroom used for?
Google Classroom is where the learner accesses the academic work.
Depending on the grade and pathway, Google Classroom may contain:
- Subjects.
- Lessons.
- Activities.
- Submitted work.
- Marks.
- Marker feedback.
- Study material.
- Practice Rounds.
- Knowledge Challenge information.
- Academic announcements.
The learner should learn how to:
- Open a subject Classroom.
- Find the current section.
- Open a lesson.
- Complete the required activity.
- Attach a file.
- Submit the work.
- Check that the work was turned in.
- Open returned work.
- Read marks and feedback.
The parent should monitor this process until the learner can manage it more independently.
What is Google Drive used for?
Google Drive may be used to store or access files connected to the learner’s academic journey.
This may include:
- Lesson documents.
- Uploaded work.
- Reports.
- Practical evidence.
- Shared academic material.
- Portfolio documents.
Parents should also download and safely store important evidence for the learner’s Portfolio of Evidence.
Do not assume that all online files will remain available forever after enrolment ends.
What is Google Meet used for?
Google Meet may be used for:
- NeuroMix.
- NeuroSupport.
- NeuroChamp meetings in Option 2.
- Other scheduled NeuroMe sessions.
The learner should test:
- The camera.
- The microphone.
- The speaker or headphones.
- The internet connection.
- The correct Google account.
Testing before a scheduled session reduces unnecessary stress.
What is ionHub used for?
ionHub is NeuroMe’s central communication dashboard.
It contains the information families need to understand the NeuroMe journey.
The parent should use ionHub to check:
- Important announcements.

The learner should not meet the Invigilator App for the first time when the marks count.
Why the Invigilator App is used
NeuroMe uses the Invigilator App for applicable internal Knowledge Challenges to protect academic integrity.
The App allows the learner to complete an assessment in the familiar home environment while NeuroMe still receives evidence that the assessment conditions were followed.
This reduces the need for an unfamiliar adult to sit beside the learner during every internal Knowledge Challenge.
It also allows the learner to practise the type of independence needed for formal academic progression.
The learner should practise before formal assessment
Practice Rounds give the learner an opportunity to practise:
- Opening the assessment.
- Using the correct device.
- Granting camera and microphone permissions.
- Working while the App operates.
- Remaining within the permitted digital environment.
- Uploading written work.
- Confirming successful submission.
- Managing the emotional experience.
If the Practice Round reveals a problem, the family still has time to correct it.
What if the learner feels anxious about the App?
Anxiety often increases when technology is unfamiliar.
Parents can help by:
- Reading the ionHub information early.
- Explaining the purpose of the App calmly.
- Testing the camera and microphone.
- Completing the Practice Rounds.
- Preparing the same assessment space each time.
- Keeping the setup predictable.

It is not intended to frighten or punish the learner.
What if something does not work?

- Has the page been refreshed?
- Has the learner signed out and signed in again?

- Is the issue explained in the orientation information?
For ordinary Google questions, a simple Google search may provide the answer.
For NeuroMe specific or Invigilator App problems, use the correct NeuroMe support process.
How to ask for technical help
A clear technical query should include:
- The learner’s full name.
- The learner’s NeuroMe email address.
- Grade.
- Pathway.
- The platform being used.
- The device being used.
- The browser being used.
- A description of the problem.
- A screenshot.
- A short screen recording where helpful.
- The exact error message.
- The time the problem occurred.
- What the family has already tried.
A message that says only “We cannot get in” does not provide enough information for the team to investigate quickly.

Parent support during lessons and assessments is different
During ordinary lessons, the parent may help the learner navigate the platform, understand instructions and access the content.
During a formal Knowledge Challenge, the learner must complete the academic work independently, using only the permitted support.
The parent may prepare:

- The approved accommodation.
- The required materials.
The parent may not explain questions or provide answers.
The orientation activities explain these boundaries.
Starting Standard NSC
Standard NSC families should be ready to follow:

- SACAI requirements in Grades 10 to 12.

Open Scope flexibility does not mean that the family can ignore the digital system.
The learner’s lessons, marking, feedback and progress evidence still depend on the platforms being used correctly.
Starting with catch up content
Catch up should be approached carefully.
Once access has been provided, the parent should:
- Review the content that must be completed.
- Read the catch up guidance.
- Create a realistic plan.
- Avoid trying to complete everything in a few days.
- Monitor the learner’s regulation.
- Review marking feedback.
- Arrange tutoring where gaps are significant.
- Communicate with the Academic Lead where academic planning is needed.
Catch up access provides the missed content.
It does not guarantee that the learner can master the content without further parent support or tutoring.
